Marsha Hussung
Minister of Music
First let it be said that Marsha is a proud Kansan, and while she loves St. Louis, she will always be a child of the Great Plains. Raised in a family strong in its embrace of faith and music, Marsha felt drawn to a life that could allow her to remain true to both. She earned bachelors and masters degrees in music from Kansas State University, coming to St. Louis in 1980 to pursue a Ph.D. in Musicology at Washington University. She came close, but never managed to jump that final hurdle of a dissertation, a decision she has never regretted.
After joining the Delmar Baptist Choir as a soloist in 1983, Marsha stepping up as interim choir director in 1991. Working with singers, helping to plan meaningful worship, and selecting music to complement and enhance the worship experience all combined to convince her that she had found her true calling. She was officially hired as Minister of Music in 1995.
Marsha met her husband, Chuck, while both were singing in the choir at Delmar. They were married in the old Delmar sanctuary at Skinker and Washington in 1987 and have contributed two fine additional choir members, John (born in 1988), and William (added in 1991). Chuck teaches English at St. Louis University High School, where both boys are also students.
In addition to her musical involvement at Delmar, Marsha is a free-lance singer in the St. Louis area. She also works part time at Washington University as the Director of PreCollege Programs in Arts & Sciences.
